Club Subs
A reminder that club subs are due if you haven’t paid as yet. Please note that we will have no choice but to apply a NO PAY NO PLAY rule for players with subs outstanding. It is unfair on the boys and parents who have made the effort to pay to spend time on the bench when players who have not paid get to play. PLEASE do not ask your coach why your player is not getting game time, we will play players who have paid their subs before those that have not. Rovers Bank details are as follows:
Nedbank Meyersdal
Cheque Acc # 1520052995
Branch Code: 152042
Ref: Players name and team
Players Kit
Parents and players are asked please, if your player is taking his kit home with him that it ONLY BE USED FOR GAMES on Saturdays. The club has spent around R80 per set for our players to look presentable. These kits are NOT to be practice in, or used for fancy dress parties, neither are they play outfits for after school.
Please keep them clean as we would like to use them for at least 1 more season.
Thanks again to all players and parents for the support!
KEEP KICKING!!

Rovers U/10 Team vs Alberton
The game started at 9:30am in home turf, receiving the visitor with two goals with no answer.
The goals where scored by Kamo and Angus. Well done.
As it may be noticeble, the information about the game is a bit vague at this moment, as I wrote this report based in Alldair's comment. As he says, “ I did not see properly because I was playing too”...
So, I invite anyone who would like o comment about the game to write and fax to 0866525821 or e-mail to me on rovesfclub@gmail.com.
More…Rovers U/14 vs Bocksburg
The game started at 10:30am with parents like me screaming and pushing for their kids.
The game was fabulous, in the first halve, the Rovers boys dominated the game playing almost exclusively in the opponents area.
The Keeper.
Our “Shorty” Keeper was up to his class, demonstrated his talent in the box. Yes, he allowed the visitors to score two goal which made a Drew 2-2.
Lost Opportunity's.
It is uncontested that Rovers U/14 was superior in the field, even with some lost opportunities to score demosntrated by our boys.
Couch Claudio.
Couch Claudio besides the below average size, make himself present in the field, always with a word of encouragement, advise to his players. He keeps ON the full time without loosing control. But he gets tough when needed, with his famous “you own me five push ups boy”.

Newsletter
Welcome back ROVERS! I hope you all had a fantastic break this Easter Weekend. We are less than 15 days away from the season kick off and after a chat to the coaches I can tell you we are all rearing to go. Please don’t stress about the number of newsletters we send out, they do slow down once the season is up and running!
Just some important info we need to pass onto all players and parents.
Players registration
Please make sure that you have submitted your player registration form and the R150 registration payment by the end of this week. If you are not registered you cannot play. There are still some entries outstanding and we will start running into problems with players when the season kicks off.
We ask players and parents to please understand that once the season kicks off it will take 7 WORKING days to get a player registered. We will not run around during the season to get cards organized as there has been more than enough time to get this done.
A reminder that club subs are also due. If subs are not paid then the NO PAY NO PLAY rule will apply. PLEASE do not ask your coach why your player is not getting game time, we will play players who have paid their subs before those that have not.

· Each team will play between 5 and 8 games
· ALL PLAYERS MUST BE AT ALBERTON FOOTBALL CLUB ON THE DAY BY NO LATER THAN 8AM!!!
· What to bring:
o Kit to play (all players MUST where shin guards and proper kit or they will not be allowed to play.)

We have registered the teams to play in pools that will vary from the divisions we enter the teams into for the league. This is to ascertain the strength of our players against some of the better teams so that we do not enter into divisions we are either to strong for or perhaps to weak for.
Unfortunately there is no tournament for the U/16’s this weekend. We will be trying to set something up for you guys to play against in the next few weeks.
Players Registration Day & Workday

Prize giving day.
On Saturday the 13th Rovers FC family got a fabulous get together at Ritvlei Zoo Farm as previously scheduled. It started as a Swiss clock. 12 O’clock.
The place was crowded with people, all seated on camping chairs, others in the blankets, almost everyone had a Coleman with delicious stuff. But for sure there was not short of beer.
Very briefly, the chairman thanked for the presence and support from grannies, parents, players, teams management...
Glenn, the chairman, started by acknowledging the support of parents during the season, the collaborators, the fund raisers, sponsors. Thanked the players for the outstandind achievement during the year.
The chairman spoke about the improvements in the facilities, the investment in the players...
In overall, he said that the club had outperformed the previous years (and did not lie).
The table with all the medals, trophies, and super trophies was unveiled, everyone become more anxious to hear their kids name being called. Like me, many parents made sure to take cameras to immortalize the moment of recognition.
The names started rolling with the U/12 team.
They have improved their performance, the medals where ceremoniously attributed to the players, having given a trophy for most goals scorers Candeon, Miguel and Adlen, most dedicated players Adlen and Viren, and most improved player Bradley.
Sad note on this chapter is that coach Jason will not be returning next year; fortunately/unfortunately he has other professional commitments. We at Rovers will miss him and wish him the best of life.
The U/11 team with Coach Basil (right) Glenn (left) and Angela (backwards next to Glenn )
Coach Basil also had delivered fabulously. He leaded the U/11 team.
The boys where given medals and trophies. Then, the most outstanding performers where presented with super trophy’s. They where, top scorer Devon Peterson, player of the year Stuart Papworth, best improvement Tristan Muthree, top goal scorer Devan, most dedicated Jardel Lopes and added a special category, "the coaches trophy" which is to present the one that listens to the coaches instructions the most went to Joshua Reece.
From now on, the destiny of the U/11 is solemnly in coach Siva’s hands.
But we where not free of the black cloud yet; the chairmen announced that after being with Rovers for six sweet years, coach Basil decided on a "retirement"... After some many years, finally, his wife will not sit alone to watch the sunset.
The U/8 team
Continuing was acknowledged the tremendous 360 degree turn that Coach Martin delivered with the U/8 team. From losing almost every game last year, this year they scored joint second place in the league.
In the beginning of the season, the boys had a crawling start, loosing couple of games, but from around the second month of the season, were simple systematic good performances.
All players got their medals closer to their heart, some boys where distinguished with extra honors for best Player Jordan, Best Improvement Alldair and Blane.
The Unbeatable, the mighty U/7 team coached by Coach Dave did not stop surprising us. They went 2 years without loosing a single match. It’s a fantastic achievement hain? When we believed that there was nothing more in the bag, they finally lost... the last game of the season, but the title was in the bag. They won the U/7 league and the "Rovers top team" trophy. What a trophy.
Then last but not the least, Glenn called on Claudio, our “in house referee” and quoted one of his positive attitudes when refereeing the small ones…
- “He always makes sure to explain to the kid, why of giving a certain punishment. It is important for the kid, to learn with his mistakes so that in future it doesn’t happen again.”
After the prize giving, the fires that were lit long before, were put to good use. All the t-bones, beefs, boerwors, chickens landed in the braii. The smell filled the air all around us. Everyone was exited, parents and coaches chatting, the kids running around playing... Ball.
Since this is the month of fasting for the Muslims like me, I guessed I would be much conforble somewhere else where the main activities were not lunch.
I landed home watching the Beijing Paralympics on TV.
